Good Shepherd Church Associate Pastor Position

Good Shepherd Church is a congregation in the Lawrencetown Beach area of Nova Scotia. We are a group of believers that are compelled to follow Jesus and hold to his teachings and to the core beliefs of the Christian Faith.

Associate Pastor Position:

Under the direction of the senior pastor, the associate pastor accomplishes a wide variety of assignments focused primarily on worship using creative and musical gifts to lead/oversee the worship at GSC and the worship teams.


Typical duties include:

  • Using creativity, effectively lead practice times, co-ordinate introduction of new songs and mentoring worship leaders. With the senior pastor, planning and delivery of regular church services and special events.

  • Oversee the operation of the sound room including instructing others to work with the sound. 

  • Administrative duties as assigned by the senior pastor that may include Website and other social media updates.

  • An ability to engage with youth would be an asset.



Qualifications: -Member in good standing of Good Shepherd Church  (within a year of commencement of employment)

                         -Meet the qualifications expressed in 1 Timothy 3

                         -Credentialed with the CCCC National Office (or in the process of) Policy 6.0 (within a year of commencement)

                         -Mature in the Faith. Born again Christian

                         - A positive Understanding of Christian discipling

                         - A solid knowledge of Scripture

                         - Organizational and Leadership Skills

                         - Criminal Record Check

                         - Work within the Child Abuse Prevention Policy

                         - First Aid (optional)


This is a part-time position of 17.5 hours per week. Hours spent onsite at the church are negotiable with the pastor.

Training will be provided.

Chalmers Community Church is a group of Christ followers that hold to the core beliefs of the Christian faith. Chalmers Community Church was established in 1989 and is a friendly, rural, faith community that is situated between Kincardine and Tiverton.

Position Overview:

The Lead Pastor is the shepherd, under Jesus Christ our Good Shepherd, of the congregation of Chalmers Community Church. The Lead Pastor will be faithful and steadfast while providing strategic direction for church ministries in keeping with our stated Focus. This position will provide leadership in the development of discipleship within the congregation and outreach to the community.



The Lead Pastor reports directly to the Board of Elders and is ultimately accountable to the congregation through the Board of Elders



Teaching and Worship (50%)

  • Responsible for the teaching ministry of Chalmers Community Church which involves preaching on a regular basis while allowing for a variety of other voices and speakers, scheduling guest speakers and prayerfully planning message series.

  • Working with worship assistants and music teams to organize and facilitate the Sunday Worship Service.

  • Protect the church from false/distracting teaching and doctrine.


Congregational Vision & Leadership (30%)

  • Oversee the health of our focus as a church; ensuring it is current, relevant and well communicated.

  • Establish goals and objectives arising from our focus, and develop strategies to collaboratively see them achieved.

  • Prayerfully discern the next steps that God wants the congregation to take to move faithfully forward together.

  • Oversee the spiritual health of the congregation.

  • Foster an outward focused environment of community care, local evangelism and global missions.

  • Oversee all pastoral staff and empower all ministry teams.


Discipleship (10%)

  • Foster an environment of discipleship including but not limited to classes, bible studies, small groups and/or prayer meetings.


Administration and Other (10%)

  • Provide counselling and referrals as required.

  • Be available, and when possible participate with or visit those members involved in community activities related to the church or its members.

  • When requested, visit congregational members.

  • Officiate at weddings, funerals, baptisms and dedications as required.


Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Post-Secondary Education in Biblical or Pastoral Studies

  • 3 years of experience in a lead pastor or youth pastor role

  • Previous experience leading a rural church would be considered an asset


Required Skills:

  • Deep commitment to Jesus Christ

  • Inspiring and engaging teacher

  • Ability to connect with individuals of all ages

  • Ability to work effectively independently and in team environments

  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Honest & trustworthy mentor

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle


Terms of Employment:

  • Salaried position - Hours of work are expected to average 40 hours per week but may change due to busy seasons

  • A clear police criminal record check

  • Become a member of Chalmers Community Church

  • Agreement with Chalmers Church Statement of Faith

  • Credentialed with the Congregational Christian Churches in Canada (CCCC)
